PEDIATRIC CHIROPRACTIC
Our pediatric specialists, Dr. Shantai and Dr. Meghan, have extensive training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to deliver safe, gentle and effective chiropractic and movement-based treatment to babies and children of all ages.
WHY CHIROPRACTIC FOR KIDS?
Chiropractic helps to ensure optimal brain-body communication as kiddos grow and develop. Difficult birth, falls and injuries can all create lasting neuro-musculoskeletal problems which may snowball to bigger issues as children get older. Just as a pediatrician does a wellness check up to check milestones and reflexes to ensure proper development, so do our doctors. A chiropractor can help screen for issues such as tongue and lip ties, flat heads, scoliosis, posture, abnormal movement patterns and more. Every kiddo should be established with a chiropractor for their spinal hygiene, just like they are established with a dentist for their dental hygiene.
NEWBORNS, BABIES AND TODDLERS
An infant can have muscle, joint or nerve discomfort just as experienced by adults. Infants and children adapt quickly, and learn to avoid uncomfortable movements, such as not looking in one direction or refusing tummy time. Gentle sustained pressure, light massage and cranial techniques are used for infants (no more pressure than you would put on your own eyelid), and there are no cracks or pops. For our more mobile babies and toddlers, an adjustment often takes place on a parent’s lap or while on the floor playing. We make it our mission to make sure they are comfortable, have some fun and learn to love coming to the chiropractor.
Common reasons parents take their infants and toddlers to see a chiropractor:
Persistent neck rotation / Torticollis
Difficulty bottle or breastfeeding
Delay in reaching milestones such as rolling to both directions, crawling and walking
Difficulty sleeping
Colic
Pre and Post Frenectomy / Tongue and Lip Tie revision
Abnormal crawling or walking
Constipation
BIG KIDS
During an exam for kids over 3, our pediatric doctor evaluates balance, posture, coordination and tests for reflexes. Based on age, and always taking into account the child’s preferences, adjustments may look more like they do for adults, or utilize the activator instrument or drop table. Dr. Shantai is specially trained in evaluating and prescribing movement based treatment for retained primitive reflexes, which can be associated with many issues such as bedwetting, behavioral issues and issues with fine motor skills.
YOUNG ATHLETES
We are so proud of the exceptional student athletes we treat who are competitive swimmers, lacrosse players, dancers, wrestlers, softball players and more. Young athletes choose to see a chiropractor to improve performance, help prevent injuries, to recover from injuries such as sprains, strains and concussions, and to improve hand-eye coordination and reflex times. At Eastridge Chiropractic Co., Dr. Mat has special interest in Sports Chiropractic, and is certified to provide Pre-Participation Sports Physicals for student athletes.
