DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a technique focused specifically at reducing muscle tension and trigger points. An ultra-thin acupuncture needle is inserted into a muscle, which stimulates a spinal cord reflex and in turn, relaxes the muscle.

The benefit of dry needling is that the practitioner can access deeper muscle groups which often are difficult to treat with more traditional massage techniques. During treatment, you will feel your muscles contract and twitch. This twitch reflex is important, and is what causes the brain to tell the muscle to relax. Patients often experience significant reductions in muscle tension within 2-4 treatments.

During dry needling sessions, an Electrical Stimulation (E-Stim) unit is often attached to the needles to enhance the pain relieving effects of the treatment.
